Edward B. Keaney

Ed Keaney has almost 30 years of experience in the investment banking industry, working in research, institutional sales and corporate finance. Partial to entrepreneurs and the inherent potential of start-up businesses, Mr. Keaney has always enjoyed working with small cap companies. At various times, his industry focus has ranged from environmental services to commuter airlines, but he has always maintained a strong interest in the consumer sector and health care services.

Mr. Keaney was a Managing Director with Merriman Curhan Ford & Company and with W R Hambrecht + Co., two San Francisco-based boutique investment banks. As a senior banker at both firms, he was responsible for coverage of both the health care and consumer sectors. His transaction experience includes IPOs, Follow On offerings, PIPEs, Registered Direct offerings, Private Placements and M&A transactions. Client companies included Peet's Coffee & Tea, Coinstar, Neurobiological Technologies, Niman Ranch, Maxim Pharmaceuticals, Brite Smile, Idera Pharmaceuticals, National Lampoon, I-Flow, and Discovery Partners.

Previously, Mr. Keany was a Partner for a number of years with Volpe Brown Whelan & Company, serving as a member of the Firm's Operating Committee and Commitment Committee. At Volpe, Mr. Keaney was a Senior Research Analyst concentrating on Health Care, particularly managed care companies, pharmaceutical services companies and e-health. He also served as Director of Research, greatly expanding the firm's presence in the internet sector and initiating its coverage of the biotech sector. Mr. Keaney actively participated in more than 15 deals at Volpe, including transactions for Healtheon, Neoforma, UroCor, PacifiCare Health Systems, Mediconsult, Health Net, Foundation Health, HealthGate, Landacorp, and MediScribe.

Before joining Volpe Brown Whelan & Company, Mr. Keaney was Vice President-Research with Stifel Nicolaus & Co. in his hometown of St. Louis, covering health care and environmental services. Prior to Stifel, he worked in research and institutional sales at Burns, Pauli & Co. His introduction to the investment business was at Mercantile Trust Company, where he worked as portfolio manager and analyst.

Mr. Keaney graduated from Saint Louis University with a BA in Economics. He earned his MBA degree from the John T. Olin School of Business at Washington University. Mr. Keaney has served on volunteer Boards for St. Anselm's School and Marin Catholic and is currently vice president of the Sleepy Hollow Homeowners Association. He lives in Marin with his wife Pat and three daughters; Gretchen, a senior at Villanova University, Paige, a freshman at Saint Louis University, and Hope, a junior at Marin Catholic High School. He enjoys playing golf and tennis, as well as hiking the numerous trails that crisscross Marin.
